At first, it was an amateur observatory built by the industrialist Maltov, then he gave it to the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Simeiz’s branch of the Pulkovo Observatory continued to work during the world, civil war and revolution. The observatory during its existence has become a high-class research center.
During the Great Patriotic War, the observatory was destroyed. In 1945, the government decides to transform the branch, the country needed astronomical observations, so the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory appeared.
