On vacation, many are faced with the problem of calculating the required number of tips. Indeed, in different countries it is customary to give more or less tips, in some this is not accepted at all. What to do? If you do not know the generally accepted norms of the country, you can simply round the amount provided for payment, or dwell on traditional 10%. But it is better, of course, to familiarize yourself with the situation in advance in which you plan to spend your vacation.
So, the size of the tips in different countries.
In the Scandinavian countries, it is customary to leave 5% tips from the amount of payment. If in the UK you look at one of the local bars and at the rack, order drinks, then you will not expect a tip, since the fact of service itself is not.
In the southern countries of Europe, for example, Spain, France or Portugal, tips account for 5-10%. The exception is Italy, the tips are not accepted here, since they are often automatically included in the total cost of the order. In the Netherlands, Switzerland and Iceland, tips are also not accepted. In Greece, on the contrary, up to 15% of tips from the general order will be expected from you.
Is it always worth paying tips?
Tips, of course, are not an obligation. If you, for example, are not satisfied with the quality of service, you can show it without paying tips. In other cases, you should not save on tips, because for most waiters this is the main source of cash income.
