“Car of the Year” is an international award awarded to the new car of the jury from journalists of professional automobile publications throughout Europe. The main goal of the nomination is to proclaim the best car going on sale. A list of 33 new products of the car, suitable in their parameters for this award, is constantly expanding. All participants are new cars that are already represented or will be presented soon in European markets (annual sales should be at least 5,000 cars a year).
Voting for a new car passes in two stages, the first is the list of 7 applicants, the only winner is selected on the second. The jury, choosing a car of 2010, consists of 59 people representing 23 European countries. National representative offices in the jury depend on the country’s car market and its importance in the production of cars. France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain each have 6 representatives in the jury; other countries are proportionally smaller.
So, according to the results of the vote, the winner of 2010 was determined. They became Volkswagen Polo, who received 347 points. This car won the Toyota IQ competition, which is only 10 points, while Opel/Vauxhall Astra, which took third place, scored only 221 points.
Volkswagen Polo, which in the eyes of motorists can be commensurate in many ways with golf, who took third place last year, was still more highly appreciated by the jury. Indeed, this is the first winner from the Volkswagen line over the past 18 years, and in 1992 golf won the victory. All 59 members of the jury gave part of their points for Polo, and 25 of them chose him as a favorite.
Despite the fact that this model of Volkswagen is shorter than the rest of the applicants in the B segment, this generation of polo can comfortably accommodate four adults. Salon, finishes, roomy trunk confirm the choice of the jury. As well as its compliance with practical needs, this small car attracts appearance and impeccable salon, the qualitative level of perception of which is very high among other applicants from this class of cars.
Fuel consumption is also important for a potential buyer, taking into account the current tendency to reduce the consumption of consumed resources. Polo offers an interesting line of engines, as well as an automatic/sectral gearbox with two couplings pleasant to use. New diesel engines by 1.6 liters are excellently suitable for car dimensions; Gasoline engines (1.2 l) also cope well with the task of saving.
